Well, New Year's Eve is Here

New Year's Eve. The pressure of resolutions. The initial eagerness to work towards fulfilling the resolutions and the eventual downfall that follows after the resolutions fall by the wayside. A never ending cycle of optimism and failure. Or maybe that's just me.

This year is going to be different for me. I really want to fulfill my resolutions. I want to work on the resolutions and have the resolutions change from aspirational goals to normal parts of my life.

So, without further adieu, here is my list of resolutions for 2012:

(1) Lose weight. I know, cliche. But after two kids in three years, it is time to drop some lbs. My goal is to lose 75 lbs. I would love to do it by the end of 2012, but regardless of how long it takes, that is my goal. (BTW, there is no way I am putting my actual weight on this blog, but suffice it to say, I need to lose 75 lbs to be a normal healthy weight, not a heroin-chic model). Aside from wanting to look better, during my pregnancy with Cheeks, I had gestational diabetes. My dietitian told me that people who had gestational diabetes are much more likely to develop Type-2 diabetes later in life. After following the gestational diabetes diet for 12 weeks, pricking my fingers 4 times a day and getting 4 insulin injections each day, there is no way I want to do that the rest of my life. Losing weight will have a huge impact on my gestational diabetes risk.

(2) Organize My House. Our house is a constant source of embarrassment. It's a great house in a great neighborhood. I am just a horrible housekeeper. I have clutter every where. My goal is made up of two subparts: (a) develop a routine for keeping a "fairly neat" household and (b) declutter and organize each room to assist with subpart (a).

(3) Meal Plan. Each week I go to the grocery store and buy a bunch of food. Regardless, half of the nights in a week I heat up a pizza or have my hubby bring something home.  We wind up throwing away food that would have been perfectly good to eat had I gotten my act together. If I could plan out meals a week at a time, maybe I won't be such a wasteful person.
