Plotting a Course

I clearly need rules and guidelines to fulfill my resolutions for 2012. I am not someone who can just say "I am going to keep the house cleaner" or "I am going to be more organized." That just falls by the wayside in two days. Instead, I need rules.

Today, I implemented my first rule:

(1) There shall be no dishes left in the sink when I go to bed. The dishes can be in the dishwasher ready to run overnight or the next day, but there will be no dirty dishes in the sink and no clean dishes in the dishwasher when I go to bed.

This will actually be a real improvement. We are horrible at doing dishes. While I cook, I try to keep up with the dishes, but after the meal, I just put the dishes in the sink to "do them later." I let that happen for a day or two and then I have a disgusting mess to clean up. If I do the dishes each night, then I won't have to deal with the disgusting mess every three days or so.

As for the other resolutions:

Losing Weight. Today, I returned to the gym, where I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical machine (320 calories burned if you believe the counters) and did some weight lifting. I also signed up for my semi-private personal training appointments for January. I am going 4 times per week. Once I start back at work, I am going at 7 p.m. I am not ready to switch to early morning workouts, but if the 7 p.m. workouts become too much, I will give that a shot.

Meal Planning. I am going to start working on this tonight.
